Curriculum
Our policy is to include as wide a range of activities as is possible, to create a wealth of stimulus, and experiences, in order to enhance children’s holistic development.
We therefore encompass learning strategies into all activities. We ‘teach’ life-skills, which allow children to become independent. We are also acutely aware of fine and gross motor skills, which are all catered for on a daily basis.
Sensory, and colour activities are prepared along with shape activities. Themes, and role - play are all considered important in the development of language and literacy skills, for which we have an excellent reputation. Numeracy begins with rhymes, matching and sorting games, and all children proceed at their own pace with active encouragement.
We learn about the World, other countries, and where we live, nature and gardening. Physical skills are taught, and children can earn ‘British Association of Gymnasts Award’ badges for competence in this area. Music and movement encourages a love of listening, co-ordination and confidence, and an ability to understand simple rhythm and composition.
All in all we feel that our curriculum is excellent, and flexibility allows for individual progress to be made.
Monthly Curriculum leaflets are produced so that parents can become involved and share the in-put!
Organisation
The settings have
variouss
learning environments, appropriate for the different stages of development.
Each child has a ‘base’ room or area in which their ‘Key person’ is also
based. The Key person will become the main contact for you as a carer, they
will liaise with both yourselves and other members of the staff team.
We
have found that this method works
extremely well, giving parents a
point of contact on a daily basis if
necessary but also allowing for your
child’s development, needs and
interests to be shared with the
team.
Children move into different areas
depending on their developme nt
socially, emotionally and
physically.
On
arrival children may choose a period
of ‘free play’ all take part in ‘me
time’ which encompasses many
elements of the curriculum, social
skills, listening skills,
co-operation and co-ordination.
Children have the opportunity to
share special news from home and to
join in singing and dancing.
Nursery days offer
a variety of activities, mornings and afternoons. Familiar staff work at
lunchtime to give continuity for all children.
Records
Records are kept from the moment your child starts at the settings, and we build up a picture quite quickly about your child. We identify their strengths, and weaknesses, enjoyable areas and areas your child has not yet experienced. From our findings we are able to plan his/her programme, along with parental in-put.
Your child’s development folder will be built up over the course of his/her stay at Rosebank, Rosebank Naturegarten and The Lakes, these will involve many photographs and individual comments, they provide a special lasting memory of your child’s early years.
Parents are welcome to arrange to view and discuss their child’s progress records at any time.
Parental feedback on our Portfolios is very positive and the children love to keep checking how theirs is getting on!
