Working with parents and carers

The relationship between children parents carers and the nursery is crucial to the child’s well-being, development and progress. We aim to foster a trusting and mutually supportive partnership in which parents feel welcomed into the centres and there is a two-way flow of information, knowledge and expertise.

Settling In

For a few days before a child starts their usual attendance pattern we ask parents to come along and spend time with their child in the appropriate area. We gradually increase the time the child is left. This is planned with your key person.

Daily feedback

Once a child starts the nursery and throughout their time with us the staff will support each child and parents. This is done by making time at the start and finish of the day wherever possible to talk to each parent and exchange information. In addition to this, for the under threes your child’s key person will complete a daily sheet informing you what they have eaten, whether they have slept and nappy/toileting details.

Individual Feedback

Your child’s key person will meet with you during the year to share with you observations, development portfolio. This is a confidential one to one meeting.

Parent Information

We also have a parent’s area where you can gather information about child development issues and have confidential discussions with staff. If you wish to do this, please ask.

Exchange of Information

As well as having regular daily discussions we encourage exchange of information by: • making available a file containing policies and procedures – this is kept in the reception area. • preparing a bi-monthly newsletter highlighting events at the centres • holding parent’s evenings to give parents/carers the opportunity to talk to staff about progress and development at the centres • maintaining a parent’s notice board displaying notices and posters • producing an annual quality questionnaire and publishing the results and action points • providing a suggestion box at reception and responding promptly to feedback. We have an open door policy and parent’s carers are always welcome to speak to management and individual nursery staff. We will do our utmost to accommodate individual needs.
