My day at Rosebank

It is raining as Grandma quickly pushes me up the path.  Puddles are forming on the pavement, and we run into the entrance, where Julie greets us. Granny puts me down and helps me with my buttons on my coat; I’m getting good at trying to do my own buttons.  My shoes are tricky, so Zoe kindly supports me to wiggle my slippers on, ready for a day's exploration.  After waving goodbye to Granny and putting my coat on my peg, I take Zoë’s hand so that I can walk steadily for my breakfast in the creative room.  Rachel is in here with some of my friends.  I am practicing choosing and saying “shreddies” or “cornflakes”. On my cornflakes I have soya milk as the other milk makes my skin red. After breakfast off we walk down to the activity room where Charlotte greets me and asks me what I would like to play with.  I look around at the sticks and bricks, the chalks on the blackboard and the little people on the floor.  Pointing to the little people, Charlotte encourages me to say people.  It's a bit of a tricky word.  She sits down with me and I play, leading them in and out of the little shops.  Charlotte is very chatty, and she makes me laugh as I put on voices for the little people.  Zoe calls tidy up time, and we all pick our toys up.  I'm getting good at this and can help mummy at home.  All around me my friends are moving around the room towards the circle-time area.  As I move along the table (for support) I notice a yellow carpet spot and bend down to get it so. We get carpet spots out so that we all have our own individual space to sit.  The music today is about rocking around-the-clock.  We all laugh and try to copy Zoe.  We sing about current buns and all join in, taking turns to buy a bun.

Some of my friends are going to go outside now.  I want to stay inside and make my way with Charlotte to the creative room.  A large tray is on the floor with a very slimy looking substance in it. I reached down to touch it, but Charlotte reminds me that I need an apron on first. These are difficult, as they seem to be back to front, but I manage to push my arms in the right place.  When I put my fingers in patterns appear so Charlotte shows me how to make wiggles.  Over in a corner, I spot the sand-tray.  Pulling off my apron and I go over to the sound and discover some spiky objects inside.  I shake them up and down, but they don't seem to make a noise. I say ‘hard’ and Charlotte tells me they are shells. I thought they looked familiar, I've seen them on the beach on holiday. My friend comes to join me and Charlotte shows us how to hold them up to our ears and listen for the sound. This is very funny. It is snack time, so we go and wash our hands passing the lovely crocodile mirror.  Today it is apple and melon and also milk or water.  After snack, I feel a bit wet.  So tell my key person, who takes me to change my pull-ups, where I can look up and see lots of pictures.  Charlotte tells me all about them.  As I am nearly “out of nappies”, Charlotte gently pops me on the loo so that I can learn to use it properly.

It is still raining a little bit outside, but with my wellies and my raincoat I am all ready to explore the garden.  Out we go, past Julie in the entrance and I have spotted the drainpipe spitting out water.  There are lots of pipes and gutters arranged at different angles.  Katy is outside and tells me to watch the toy car move down the pipe. The water makes a lovely gurgling noise as is moves down the smaller pipes making me giggle. This is fun and I pick it up again, and again.  I try different objects to see how they travel down the pipe too. Whoops, that car went very fast, I had better go and chase it.  Pulling Katy’s hand I follow the car, it has gone in the mud, so I pick up out of the garden tools and rescue it.  Some of my friends are using the tools to ‘garden’ and are using baskets to carry their flowers.  We have lots of plants and trees in the garden which all feel and smell different.  I like going under the big shady trees and soon I will be able to reach them when I stand in the tree house.  From there I can go down the lovely yellow slide, but its too wet to go on.

I am now in the studio for singing.  This is a lovely sunny room with large window and a shiny wood floor covered in colourful mats.  In the middle of the circle I spot a round instrument with silver jingles.  Zoe explains they are to tell a musical story about animals in the jungle.  I’m going to be a tiger so I shake my tambourine when it is my turn.  Whilst everyone is singing some of us get nappies changed again or go to the bathroom.  Then we all go to the craft room for lunch.  Jane cooks some lovely food and today it is chicken hot-pot.  Using a knife and fork is still a little new to me, but Rachael helps me cut the potatoes up and encourages me to use them correctly, I’m quite proud of myself.  For dessert it is yogurts, so there is a soya one for me.  All this food makes me sleepy so we go back down to the studio where gentle music softly floats in the air and the beds look very inviting.  Over by the cupboard I spot ‘teddy’ waiting for me on the bed, and snuggle down for a snooze.  Some children take a while to nod-off, but I go out “like-a-light”, ready to recharge my batteries for the afternoon adventure!
